Silver Dollar City

Sharing is caring!

Silver Dollar City is the big amusement park near Branson. It has small shows and a lot into the park of rides. It’s built on hilly ground, so the one big hill going down into the park was ticky to get Marty down in a wheelchair.

Other than that, it was a decent amusement park and had a lot of neat roller coasters. Hattie and I were the only ones to go on rides, so we went on two different days, while Marty and Hattie’s friend only went on one day.

We went on Wednesday when the high temperature was around 40 degrees. It was cloudy and occasional drizzle. I had on two sweatshirts and I was still a little chilly. Needless to say, the park wasn’t very busy that day.

We all saw one short comedy show and then Marty and Hattie’s friend went shopping in some of the shops there. Hattie and I went to ride rides.

We first road a rollercoaster called Thunderation. It was decent for a rollercoaster, but Hattie wasn’t impressed. I think it reached speeds up to 50 mph. A guy told us to go across the park to Outlaw Run.

We went down the hill and looked at other roller coasters, but most of them were closed due to the weather. We did find a ride called the Giant Barn Swing, that we rode on. There was almost no wait. It swang you up near the treetops and back. I was a little nervous about it.

Then we walked to the edge and came to Outlaw Run. It was operating and had almost no line. It is a wooden coaster. Since there was no waiting, we were on it in a few minutes.

First off, it climbed a hill that was about 200′ off the ground. Then it dipped a little and went up another little hill. Next, the track was straight for a bit……….Strait down! Literally! At this time, maximum speed is 68 mph! It does a couple of loop de loops where you are briefly upside down. goes completely sideways and ends with a double corkscrew, all at a high rate of speed!

Since there was no line, we road this three times in rapid succession until my stomach said I’d better quit. I hung out in the gift shop while Hattie rode it maybe 8 to 10 times altogether.

After this, we left. Hattie and I came back on Friday when the temperature was around 60 and it was partly cloudy. There were a lot more people there then.

We rode the Time Traveler, which was a spinning roller coaster. The cars could spin sideways, backward, or forwards as you went down the coaster. It was pretty fun, but not as crazy as Outlaw Run. Then we got in line for Powder Keg. Now Powder Keg goes from 0 to about 55 mph in 2.8 seconds. You experience some G forces on it. It also has some loop de loops and other cool stuff.

Then we rode also rode Wildfire and Fire in the Hole. They were both fast and very cool roller coasters.

Now for the negative about Silver Dollar City. These four roller coaster rides took a full 8-hour day on Friday. We didn’t get much lunch until late. The lines for food at lunchtime would have probably taken another hour or more out of our day.

The average wait for a good ride was around two hours. You have to decide if it’s worth waiting to ride the coasters. It may be like the old line says, “Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.”
