The Amalfi Coast

Sharing is caring!

I think one of my favorite places we’ve visited on our travels is the Amalfi Coast. It ranks up there with Meteora in Greece. It had a great mixture of natural beauty and cool buildings.

The Amalfi Coast is a coastline you can drive along where it is largely cliffs and steep mountains, but they built little towns and other buildings along there. The road itself is built into the cliffs with the outer edge of the road cantilevered over the air about three or four feet.

The buildings are almost stacked up on top of each other with narrow roads running right in front of them. The buildings are colorful with a lot of rock laid around them and holding everything up.

As you drive along, you pass areas that are terraced to provide places for yards and gardens. There are flowers planted where they can be and you have the view of the sea as well. When you look up, there are the rugged mountains to view above you. It’s definitely not a fast road, but it’s very photogenic.

We passed one building that looked like it wasn’t being used anymore, that said hotel. It was about the size of a small two-bedroom house. I remarked about how small it was until we got across the bay and could see more of it. There were several stories beneath the small building built into the cliff with glass and tremendous views. It must have been a great hotel to stay at.

We also saw some very small cars and trucks they use on these roads. They made sense after seeing how little parking area there was.

We also got some great views of the coastline and sunsets. This area was so beautiful that I’m adding extra photos to show you. Marty sent me some of her pics for this so I’ll include those at the end. You’ll see that she’s a better photographer than I am. Enjoy the pics! If you get to Italy, be sure to visit there!

Sheep butts on the way up the mountain. Marty likes butts!
